the big five uh oh…..

I started this blog as a fiftieth birthday gift to myself. A bookmark, if you will, to help me remember my own hopes, dreams and ambitions, disentangled from my business of shepherding the dreams of others.  I’m a booking agent and music publicist. I’ve owned a small agency, Moonstruck Promotions, for 15 years. My day to day tasks revolve around helping musicians achieve, reasonable, attainable and sustainable success. For as much as I book shows or arrange interviews with print media, or seek airplay, what I do, when it comes down to brass tacks, is help my musicians build dreams. In the fulfillment of dreams, a certain happiness is found between artist and audience. It’s a warm and humbling experience to be a part of such valid dreams as musicians have.

But, see what I’ve done? I’m off the subject again! This blog is about me and my writing, which I have adored from the first time I wrote a poem about leaves in sixth grade. This year I’ve released three mini books (20 pages or less) about music and the business of it. I create the layout, cover art and I bind them myself. Talk about IN HOUSE creation! For years I struggled with a tome about the music business, two three inch binders full of writing, philosophy and ideas about music.  Then, through a series of what I can only credit as cosmic occurrences, the notion came to me to break apart my copious and continuous writing into small, easily digestible booklets. No publisher, no contracts, no confusion. On the other hand, no monetary advance, no agent and no help! But I am accustomed to going it alone and honestly, it doesn’t really bother me. My writing and self-publishing is on my terms.

So this blog is a way to talk to others, to communicate and pass along ideas and concepts, and to have fun sharing with friends old and new.  I look forward to learning and being a part of this fascinating technology. Mostly I hope to do what mostly eludes me; have fun!
